KEEP YOUR CELL PHONE & LAPTOP

Typically, treatment centers do not permit cell phone or laptop use, but at both Chapters and Monarch Shores, our clients are allowed to engage with outside responsibilities.

PTSD can reshape your life in ways you never expected. What starts as intrusive memories or sleepless nights can grow into something that affects your relationships, your work, and your sense of safety in the world. You might find yourself avoiding places or people that remind you of what happened, or feeling constantly on edge even when there’s no real danger. This isn’t weakness, and you’re not broken. PTSD is a mental health condition that develops after experiencing or witnessing trauma, and it’s treatable with the right care.

At Sunshine Behavioral Health’s PTSD rehab locations, you’ll receive evidence-based therapies in settings that prioritize your comfort and privacy. These centers provide the space and support you need to heal, rebuild your sense of safety, and reclaim control over your life.

About PTSD Disorder

PTSD disorder develops when your brain and body can’t fully recover from a traumatic experience. While most people feel distressed after trauma, PTSD occurs when those reactions persist and interfere with daily life. The condition, which affects a percentage of people who experience trauma, can develop immediately after an event or emerge months or even years later. Symptoms include:

  • Re-Experiencing the Trauma: You may have flashbacks that make you feel like the traumatic event is happening again right now. Nightmares can disrupt your sleep, and certain triggers, such as a sound, a smell, or a place can flood you with distressing memories.
  • Avoidance and Withdrawal: You might go out of your way to avoid people, places, or activities that remind you of what happened. This can mean staying away from conversations about the trauma, isolating yourself from friends and family, or losing interest in things that once brought you joy.
  • Negative Thoughts and Emotions: PTSD can change how you see yourself and the world around you. You may experience persistent feelings of guilt, shame, or worthlessness, struggle to remember parts of the traumatic event, or find it hard to trust others or feel positive emotions.
  • Heightened Reactivity: Your nervous system stays on high alert, leaving you feeling constantly watchful or easily startled. You might have trouble sleeping or concentrating, experience angry outbursts, or engage in reckless behavior. This hypervigilance can be exhausting and make it hard to relax, even in safe environments.

Treatment for PTSD centers on evidence-based psychotherapy approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Prolonged Exposure therapy. Medication can also play a role in managing symptoms, particularly when combined with therapy. With proper treatment, you can rebuild your sense of control and find relief from the symptoms that have been holding you back.

Explore PTSD Treatment Centers

If you’re considering treatment outside California, Sunshine Behavioral Health operates centers across the country that provide the same high-quality PTSD care in different settings. Each location brings its own environment and atmosphere while maintaining the evidence-based therapies, personalized treatment plans, and supportive staff that define Sunshine Behavioral Health’s approach to trauma recovery.

Mountain Springs Recovery – Colorado

Mountain Springs Recovery sits on the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains in Monument, Colorado, less than an hour from Denver International Airport. The facility occupies a converted hotel property on 5.12 acres, providing multiple levels of addiction and PTSD treatment in a setting that combines medical care with mountain tranquility. You’ll stay in private or semi-private rooms while attending therapy sessions and participating in activities both indoors and across the surrounding landscape.

The center provides medically supervised detox, residential treatment, and outpatient programs for adults dealing with PTSD and co-occurring conditions. Treatment includes cognitive behavioral therapy, EMDR for trauma, individual and group sessions, and holistic therapies like meditation, art therapy, and yoga. Staff members include doctors, nurses, licensed therapists, and case managers who work together to create and implement your treatment plan.

Mountain Springs allows clients to keep their phones and laptops, recognizing that maintaining connections to family and work can support your recovery rather than hinder it. The facility provides chef-prepared meals, gym access, a stocked fishing pond, and recreational activities. Staff will pick you up from anywhere within a two-hour radius, including the Denver airport. Colorado’s variable weather means you should pack for different conditions, though the center can provide basic toiletries if needed.
