Lincoln Recovery
My Experience
“I struggled with depression and alcohol for over 15 years. My experience at Lincoln Recovery gave me the opportunity to get out of a cycle of drinking and depression I’d dug for myself. I was able to start seeing things in a new light and re-dedicate myself to productive and positive habits. The staff was awesome and I have stayed in contact with several of my fellow attendees, which has helped me significantly. It’s not always easy, but I am happy to say that I love life again!”
Brett was interviewed about his recovery journey and experience at Lincoln Recovery, and here is what he had to say:
When did you attend Lincoln Recovery?
I attended Lincoln Recovery from June 17th, 2022 until July 16th, 2022.
What is your sobriety date?
June 17th, 2022
Why did you choose Lincoln Recovery?
I chose that program due to the proximity to where I live and because of the reviews I read online. Another deciding factor was that clients had private rooms and were able to retain their phones.
What was the most helpful part of treatment?
The most helpful part of treatment for me was being able to remove myself from the cycle of drinking and depression for a while and reset my mind. Getting out of the self-perpetuating routine of being depressed and drinking, and then drinking because I was depressed was a big part of my recovery. Coupled with being able to hear other’s stories and talking with other clients having similar struggles really helped as well. I’ll also say that I really subscribed to the SMART methodology when it came to assessing my feelings and dealing with cravings and other stressors.
Who at our program made the biggest impact in your recovery journey?
I don’t think there was one person. It was more the community of staff and other clients providing an open and honest environment to work through the process.
How has your life changed since attending our Lincoln Recovery?
My life is orders of magnitude better since I left treatment. I don’t even know where to begin. I look forward to each day now. I’ve started new hobbies and I have so much more time now that I’m not spending most of my weeks drinking and hungover. My work has improved, my health has improved, and my entire internal dialogue and how I view myself has changed. I just enjoy life again.
What advice do you have for someone considering treatment?
My advice for someone considering treatment for the first time is to make the leap. It’s intimidating and you probably don’t know what to expect, but if you’re committed to change and willing to put in the work it can be life changing. The other folks in treatment are all there with similar goals and having a community of supportive individuals to help launch your recovery is invaluable.
